12 Easy Steps to Expressing Your Creativity-ArtStart

Updated: Feb 16, 2019

Firstly let me debunk the myths about art. It is a technique learned not gifted.

That's right, the girl or boy at school who you thought was ‘gifted’ probably had a parent or grandparent who showed them the basics, or had read a book on drawing techniques or seen an online course and then they had PRACTICED.

And practiced and practiced some more.

Your brain needs time to learn new things to create new neural pathways.

By practicing you create a muscle memory, a link between your hands and your mind.

Think of when you learnt how to write, all those sheets of letters where over and over you wrote out the same letter.

A is for apple, B is for ball.

You were learning to write but you were also DRAWING!

Think about it, a is a circle with a line to the right, b is a circle with a line to the left and so on.

All drawing is based on a dot and a line.

Let’s take a line. A line can be straight or curved, zig zagged, thick or thin.

When a line intersects with itself it forms a shape.

It can form the basic geometric shapes, which are a circle,  a square or rectangle, a triangle and what’s called an ‘organic’ shape.

You already know how to draw these things, Art is just the way you combine those shapes with colour and with values of light and dark to suggest form.

So, my work here is done, you already know how to draw and express your creativity?
