What Do You Do With An Ugly Painting

Hello Beautiful People, me again, with the latest instalment of Acrylic Mediums Part 3.

When we last left off our mountain landscape it was looking, well let’s be honest, downright u-u-u-ugly!

As I’ve mentioned before, you’ll find with most of your paintings they go through an ‘ugly phase’ & there may be a point where you think, ‘What on earth am I going to do with this? Should I just toss it in the bin & start again?’

The answer is NO!

The beauty of working in acrylics is that you can always add another layer.

If the underneath layer is dark, add an opaque lighter colour first (usually titanium white or unbleached titanium), so that you can then come back in with a lighter value of colour over the top.

I used Naples Yellow & Unbleached Titanium which are both opaque over the dark Pthalo Blue to give me a place to jump off from for my foliage textures & for texture on the rock face.

You can also add glazes & washes to manipulate colour & value.

Join me on Youtube today & I'll show you artists' secrets to bring any painting back from the brink of the bin as we bring our mountain landscape to completion in Acrylic Mediums Part 3. Click here
